    Type of Beer

Barrel-Aged Spiced Porter with Fresh Pumpkin and Pumpkin Spices

    Notes

Unlike most pumpkin beers, this porter-- brewed with fresh pumpkins-- tastes spiced almost as an afterthought. Where many spiced beers fail in overpowering the palette, this one succeeds by letting you appreciate the complexities of the beer itself before giving you that classic taste of Fall. Perfect for the upcoming crisp weather. From their website: Named for the evil Wilson, despotic ruler of the realm of Gamehendge and keeper of the Helping Friendly Book, which he stole from the peaceful and bucolic Lizard People. Sorry, folks, you’re gonna have to look this one up if you don’t already know. (http://gamehendge.org/The_Man_Who_Stepped_Into_Yesterday_mp3.php). The beer is as black as Wilson’s soul, thanks to plenty of roasted barley malt and chocolate malt. Dark caramel malt lends a bit of sweetness (don’t most despots have a sweet tooth?) which is complemented by the addition of 200# of fresh, organic sugar pumpkins from Wilson Farms (no relation) in Lexington, MA. Spices added to the brewkettle include cinnamon, allspice, ginger, and nutmeg, and after fermentation was complete this evil little beer was sent down to the CBC Dungeon (Barrel Cellar) and into a set of Eagle Rare bourbon barrels (where it could spend some time thinking about what it had done and promise to be a better person in the future). Despite his deep, dark nature, Wilson is definitely still having fun. Cheers!
